Optical pump source → Q-switched pulse → scanned beam

The RSD-M200 uses an internationally advanced optical pump technology. Photons from the pump source excite the laser medium, and the Q-switch releases them as 1064nm high-peak-power pulses. A galvanometer scanner and F-θ lens direct each pulse into the steel surface.

Why a fiber laser?

1064nm wavelength light is strongly absorbed by metal surfaces, which means most of the energy goes into vaporizing steel instead of bouncing off. The RSD-M200 uses an industry-leading JPT fiber laser source with M² < 1.3 — a near-perfect TEM00 beam.

The result: a focused spot under 20µm in diameter, with a divergence angle only one-quarter that of a semiconductor-pumped laser. That beam quality is what allows 0.015mm minimum line width and the clean, burr-free edges the M200 is known for.

The questions we hear most often from pad printing plate buyers evaluating a switch from chemical etching.

What's the difference between the RSD-M200-D and RSD-M200-F? +
Both models use the same JPT 20W fiber laser engine and share identical marking performance (0.015mm line width, 10,000mm/s scan speed, 100×100mm marking area). The difference is the chassis: RSD-M200-D is a compact benchtop unit for small workshops and labs. RSD-M200-F is a floor-standing production system with an electric precision lifting worktable and an integrated monitor for live preview — built for high-volume industrial production lines.
Can the RSD-M200 replace chemical etching entirely? +
Yes, for the vast majority of pad printing plate applications. The fiber laser produces consistent 0.003mm single-pass depth, burr-free edges and higher resolution than photochemical etching — all from a digital file. You eliminate film, photoresist, etching acid and rinse water from your process. The only limitation is very thick plates requiring more than 0.5mm depth, which would need multiple passes.
What materials can the RSD-M200 etch? +
All metals with good 1064nm absorption — including stainless steel, carbon steel, tool steel, zinc alloy, aluminum, copper and brass. The machine is widely used for pad printing steel plates and pad printing aluminum plates. It also works on ceramics and certain plastics. Contact us with your specific material and we'll confirm compatibility.
Do I need special facilities to install the machine? +
Standard industrial facilities are sufficient. Requirements: 220V/50Hz power (with ±5% fluctuation), ambient temperature 15–40°C, humidity 40–80% RH (no condensation), and a smoke-free/dust-free environment. For sites with grid voltage fluctuations above 5%, we recommend an electronic voltage stabilizer. For humid regions, a dehumidifier and anti-static flooring are recommended. Foundation vibration should stay under 50µm with acceleration below 0.05g.
How difficult is the software to learn? +
The control software is developed in-house and designed for ease of use. It runs on Windows with both Chinese and English interfaces. Most operators are productive within their first hour — the workflow is import file → position on screen → click start. The software supports PLT, BMP, DXF and AI files directly from AutoCAD, CorelDRAW and Photoshop. SHX and TTF font libraries can be used inline. Auto-encoding for serial numbers, batch numbers and dates is built in.
What about warranty and technical support? +
RSD Laser provides comprehensive pre-sale, in-sale and after-sale support covering equipment operation training, routine maintenance training, and ongoing spare parts supply. The machine is designed for maintenance-free operation thanks to its air-cooled fiber laser and imported isolator protection. In the unlikely event service is needed, remote video troubleshooting and express spare parts shipping (about one week delivery) keep your line production line running.
Is there a smoke extraction / ventilation requirement? +
The RSD-M200's fully sealed enclosure handles the bulk of vapor containment. For industrial-grade installations we recommend pairing the machine with an exhaust system to rapidly remove fumes from the work area. An optional fume purifier can treat the exhaust to meet "zero emission" requirements for environmentally sensitive facilities.
